What is Autism ? Autism Spectrum Disorders are puzzling developmental disorder that significantly affects a student’s ability to communicate, interact with others, and learn in a conventional manner. Despite these difficulties, children with autism do grow and learn, albeit often at a different developmental rate than other children. Many educational approaches can significantly improve the quality of life of persons with autism and their families. It is important to note that no single program or combination of interventions will meet the needs of every student. The goal of this document is to help educators and school administrators become familiar with the learning styles of students with autism and with the various educational approaches designed to meet their unique needs. Ongoing  nteraction with children with autism in your school community can prove to be a fulfilling experience for all involved, and it can permanently shape the future of children with this disability.
